St. Louis, MO (September 3, 2025) – Two people were injured early Tuesday morning in a collision on Interstate 70 involving a commercial semi-truck and a fleeing vehicle. The crash occurred around 12:00 a.m. on eastbound I-70 at the interchange with Interstate 270 in St. Louis County.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C, a 17-year-old male from St. Louis was behind the wheel of a 2019 Honda Odyssey that was actively fleeing from law enforcement when the crash occurred. The teen’s vehicle was eastbound in lane 3 when it became disabled after hitting a tire deflation device deployed by officers.
Simultaneously, a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck, driven by a 54-year-old man from Columbia, was traveling in lane 2. Unable to avoid the disabled minivan, the front of the semi struck the driver’s side of the Honda.
Emergency responders from Pattonville Ambulance District arrived promptly and transported both drivers to area hospitals. The 17-year-old, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital. The semi-truck driver, who was wearing a safety device, was also moderately injured and transported to SSM Health DePaul Hospital.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Bolin Services. The investigation remains ongoing and involves multiple agencies, including St. Charles PD.
We extend our wishes for a full recovery to both individuals injured in this serious crash.
Highway Collisions Involving Police Activity in Missouri
Crashes involving suspects fleeing from law enforcement are some of the most unpredictable and dangerous incidents on Missouri highways. Tuesday’s early morning collision on Interstate 70 near the I-270 interchange is a stark reminder of how such situations can place multiple lives at risk in an instant.
In this case, a 17-year-old driver in a minivan fled from officers before his vehicle was disabled using a tire deflation device. Despite that intervention, the situation escalated when a commercial semi-truck traveling in a parallel lane was unable to avoid the now-disabled van, resulting in a collision that injured both drivers. The outcome highlights the high-risk nature of pursuits and the dangers they present not only to law enforcement but to unsuspecting motorists sharing the road.
Missouri law enforcement agencies follow strict pursuit protocols, but the presence of high-speed chases on major interstates like I-70 still presents real dangers. Interstate 70 is one of the state’s busiest corridors, making crashes during police activity particularly hazardous.
Crashes like this often involve complex investigations, especially when a fleeing suspect is a minor and injuries occur to other drivers. The recovery process can be particularly difficult for injured victims caught in the path of police action, with issues ranging from medical treatment to insurance complications and potential legal involvement.
For victims injured in crashes involving criminal activity or police pursuit, it’s critical to seek support quickly. Recovery may involve not just physical healing but also navigating a web of liability and documentation.
