Stevensville, MD (January 23, 2025) – Two employees were injured following an explosion at a cannabis extraction facility in Queen Anne’s County on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at the PharmaCann facility in Stevensville, where propane and butane were being used in an extraction booth, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The explosion, reported around 2:00 PM, prompted a response from the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments. Officials confirmed that one employee suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries, while the condition of the second injured worker has not been disclosed.
Emergency response systems, including alarms, sprinklers, and ventilation, were activated as designed, which helped contain the damage and prevent further injuries. The explosion caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, and nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution due to the potential presence of hazardous materials.
Hazmat teams from Anne Arundel and Dorchester counties were called to assist with the response. Investigators are continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
