Stockton, CA (June 23, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered injuries late Saturday night following a traffic collision near the Turner Rd on-ramp to northbound I-5 in the Stockton area. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. and involved a vehicle that initially fled the scene.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the pedestrian was seen running toward passing vehicles, waving their hands in distress. No vehicles were stopped nearby at first, and initial responders were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. However, a short time later, CHP and San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) units discovered a crashed vehicle approximately 50–60 feet off the roadway near Thornton Rd, just north of Turner Rd.
The vehicle, described as having major rollover damage, was located in a field, having breached barbed wire fencing and causing additional property damage. The collision site and vehicle location were documented, and a recovery tow was initiated by Pacific Tow.
The pedestrian—identified as Aguilar in the CHP log—was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with injuries later classified as minor. It is unclear whether Aguilar was struck by the now-recovered vehicle, but officers reported obvious signs of a traffic collision.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities reviewing physical evidence and scene data. A drone was used to assist in locating the vehicle and gathering aerial views of the crash site.
We wish the injured individual a full and speedy recovery.
Pedestrian-Involved Incidents and Highway Safety in Stockton
This case near Turner Rd and I-5 underscores the grave risks pedestrians face when navigating freeway-adjacent environments. While freeways are designed for high-speed vehicle travel, pedestrians—whether stranded, disoriented, or trying to cross—remain highly vulnerable in these areas, especially at night.
In this case, the pedestrian was injured near a freeway on-ramp, with the striking vehicle found off-road some distance away, having caused damage to fencing and property. Such incidents raise concerns about driver awareness, road lighting, and the need for swift emergency response to prevent further harm.
Victims of pedestrian freeway incidents often face complex recoveries—medically, financially, and emotionally. Immediate medical care, documentation, and access to legal resources are essential for a full recovery.
The CHP continues to monitor high-risk areas near freeway ramps, and additional safety measures—such as fencing reinforcements and targeted patrols—are being considered in regions with recurring incidents.
