Stoddard County, MO(August 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on US Route 60, approximately five miles east of Dexter, resulted in injuries for one woman Wednesday afternoon. The crash involved a pair of Toyota vehicles and required emergency medical transport from the scene.
The incident occurred around 3:35 p.m. on August 7, when a 2011 Toyota Sienna traveling eastbound collided with a 2014 Toyota RAV4. The impact caused total damage to both vehicles, which were later towed from the site by separate recovery services. The RAV4 was operated by a 63-year-old woman from Dexter, while the Sienna was driven by a 30-year-old woman from Cape Girardeau.
Responding EMS crews transported the younger driver to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that both women were properly restrained at the time of the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
Trooper B.W. Dillon of the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene, along with local responders who worked to manage traffic and secure the crash site. The cause of the collision has not been disclosed and remains under investigation.
We extend our well wishes to the injured driver and hope for her full and swift recovery.
Two-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri’s Rural Highways
Highway crashes in rural regions like Stoddard County are all too common and can be particularly dangerous due to high travel speeds and limited emergency access. The collision on US 60, just east of Dexter, demonstrates how even routine travel during daylight hours can lead to serious incidents requiring medical intervention.
US 60 is a heavily traveled east-west route through southeastern Missouri, serving both local and regional drivers. With its mix of highway speed and intersecting rural roads, collisions often involve vehicles traveling at full speed with little reaction time. In this case, both drivers were wearing seatbelts—an important factor that likely helped limit the extent of injuries.
The 30-year-old driver from Cape Girardeau, who sustained minor injuries, was fortunate to receive timely transport to St. Francis Medical Center. Her prompt care highlights the critical role of emergency medical services in rural areas, where the closest trauma centers may be miles away.
Even when injuries appear minor, accidents like these can have lingering consequences—physically, emotionally, and financially. Recovery can involve ongoing medical treatment, vehicle replacement, and time away from work or family responsibilities. It’s essential for crash victims to understand their rights and seek help navigating the aftermath.
