Highway Interchange Collision Risks in Nevada
Crashes at intersections linking local streets with major highways, such as Charleston Blvd and CC215, often involve complex traffic movements and higher speeds. In Nevada, these transition points between freeway ramps and surface roads can become hazardous when drivers misjudge gaps, fail to yield, or change lanes abruptly.
Data from the Nevada Department of Transportation shows that interchanges are among the most common sites for serious injury crashes due to merging traffic and sudden speed changes. In areas like Summerlin South, where commuter and tourist traffic combine, congestion and unfamiliar drivers can increase collision risks.
Safety strategies for these locations include maintaining steady speeds, signaling well in advance, and being aware of vehicles entering from multiple directions. Infrastructure improvements, such as clearer lane markings and dedicated turn lanes, can also reduce conflicts and improve safety for all road users.
