Sumter Co, SC (September 18, 2025) – A tragic pedestrian crash claimed one life and left another injured Wednesday afternoon in Sumter County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred around 12:10 PM along Broad St (U.S. 76), about a mile west of a nearby intersection.
Authorities said a 2017 GMC pickup truck was traveling east on Broad St when it struck two pedestrians who were walking in the same direction. One of the victims died at the scene, while the second was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup, who was alone in the vehicle, also sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the identity of the pedestrian who lost their life. Troopers with SCHP are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
