Sunflower, AZ (September 18, 2025) – Authorities are investigating two separate vehicle collisions that occurred Monday afternoon on State Route 87 near milepost 215 in Sunflower, resulting in serious to critical injuries. The Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to both incidents, which were reported around 12:00 p.m. on September 15.
According to officials, the first crash involved a pickup truck and resulted in one individual sustaining critical injuries. A second, unrelated crash occurred shortly thereafter and involved a FedEx truck and an unidentified vehicle. At least one person was seriously injured in that collision as well.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to both scenes, and responders worked quickly to stabilize the injured. It remains unclear how many total individuals were involved across the two incidents, and no identities have been released at this time.
Traffic on the southbound side of SR 87 was temporarily impacted as first responders worked to assist victims and clear the roadway. The investigation remains ongoing as DPS officials work to determine the causes and contributing factors in both crashes.
Our thoughts are with all those injured in Monday’s collisions, and we extend our wishes for a full and rapid recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Arizona Highways
The dual accidents on SR 87 near milepost 215 underscore the unpredictable and often dangerous nature of travel along rural highways in Arizona. High-speed zones, limited shoulder access, and rapidly changing traffic conditions can contribute to back-to-back collisions in areas like Sunflower, where emergency resources may take longer to arrive.
In this case, one crash involved a pickup truck with a critically injured occupant, while the second involved a commercial FedEx vehicle and another unidentified car. Incidents involving large commercial vehicles, such as delivery trucks, can result in particularly severe damage due to their size and weight—especially when combined with highway speeds.
Highway collisions often lead to complex scenes that challenge responders, particularly when multiple accidents occur in succession. Southbound traffic delays were necessary to allow medical personnel to work safely, which is standard procedure when serious injuries are reported.
For victims, the consequences of such crashes can be long-lasting. Critical injuries often require extended hospital care, surgery, and rehabilitation, while even serious but non-life-threatening injuries can impact daily life, work, and financial stability. Arizona law permits crash victims to seek compensation when another driver’s negligence is a factor—but taking timely legal and medical steps is key to protecting one’s rights.
When multiple accidents happen in the same area, it also raises questions about road safety, visibility, and potential contributing factors like weather, construction, or traffic congestion.
One moment on the highway can lead to months—or years—of recovery. But you don’t have to face it alone.
