Sunrise, FL (September 2, 2025) – A 37-year-old man from Hialeah was tragically killed Monday morning in a violent motorcycle crash on the Sawgrass Expressway in Sunrise, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision occurred just before 10:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Sunrise Blvd and involved a high-speed impact with a sport utility vehicle.
Preliminary reports from FHP indicate that the motorcyclist, riding a 2025 blue Suzuki, was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving between lanes before striking the rear of a 2025 gray Subaru SUV in the center lane. The force of the crash caused the motorcycle to overturn and slide off the roadway, eventually coming to rest on the grass shoulder.
Responding emergency crews confirmed that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV, driven by a 69-year-old woman from Davie, also veered off the roadway and came to a stop facing east on the grassy shoulder. Authorities have not reported any injuries to the SUV driver, and no additional vehicles were involved.
Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol are continuing to review witness statements and other evidence as they work to determine the full sequence of events. No charges have been filed at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the man who lost his life in this heartbreaking accident.
Motorcycle Accidents in Florida
Tragic crashes like Monday’s fatal motorcycle collision on the Sawgrass Expressway serve as a harsh reminder of how vulnerable motorcyclists are on Florida’s high-speed highways. Unlike drivers in enclosed vehicles, motorcyclists are exposed to far greater risk, especially in situations involving lane changes and congested traffic conditions.
This crash occurred on a busy stretch of the Sawgrass Expressway, where multi-lane traffic, high travel speeds, and abrupt lane transitions often contribute to collisions. In this case, witnesses reported aggressive lane shifting prior to the crash—behavior that is known to significantly increase crash risk, particularly for two-wheeled vehicles.
Motorcycle-related fatalities continue to be a major concern across Florida. The state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for motorcycle deaths, with factors such as speeding, lack of visibility, and distracted driving playing key roles. Even experienced riders face heightened risks when sharing roads with larger vehicles that may not always anticipate sudden maneuvers.
The aftermath of a fatal motorcycle crash leaves loved ones reeling from emotional loss and the sudden burden of arrangements, unanswered questions, and legal or insurance matters. In such cases, having timely access to support resources can make a meaningful difference in navigating the difficult days ahead.
