Sutter County, CA (August 27, 2025) – A devastating collision involving a semi-truck and a sedan claimed the life of one woman and left another with major injuries late Tuesday morning in the rural community near Abbott, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 11:39 a.m. at the intersection of South George Washington Blvd and Obanion Rd. According to witness statements, the driver of a Toyota Camry reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign on Obanion Rd and entered the intersection directly in the path of an oncoming semi-truck. The truck, which had been traveling at approximately 55 mph, struck the driver’s side of the Toyota.
The force of the impact pushed the vehicle into a nearby orchard located at the southeast corner of the intersection. CHP confirmed that the driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old woman from Sacramento, died at the scene from her injuries.
A female passenger, also from Sacramento, sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews transported her to a local hospital before she was airlifted to a specialized trauma center for advanced care. Her condition has not been updated.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the collision and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with authorities. Investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
