Taylor County, FL (May 8, 2025) – A violent multi-vehicle collision involving two trucks and two passenger vehicles left four people injured Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 27 near James Bethea Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. and was described by authorities as “very serious.” A 52-year-old Perry man was driving a gas truck westbound when he reportedly side-swiped an oncoming logging truck operated by a 67-year-old Greenville man. The initial impact caused the gas truck to roll over, coming to rest on its side in the middle of the highway.
The logging truck, which continued forward after the initial collision, subsequently side-swiped a sedan and a pickup truck before overturning and blocking a portion of the highway. Both drivers of the passenger vehicles were able to steer off the north side of the road. FHP reported that they sustained minor injuries.
However, the drivers of the gas and logging trucks were seriously injured and required emergency medical evacuation by helicopter to a nearby trauma center. The crash left logs scattered across the roadway and led to significant traffic disruptions as troopers redirected vehicles around the scene and cleanup crews worked to restore access.
We extend our thoughts to all those injured and hope for a full and swift recovery.
Truck-Involved Crashes in Rural Florida
Multi-vehicle collisions involving commercial trucks, such as gas tankers and logging haulers, pose extreme risks, especially in rural regions like Taylor County, where high-speed highways intersect with industrial transport routes. In this crash on Hwy 27, both truck drivers suffered serious injuries, and the force of impact triggered a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.
Accidents of this scale highlight the inherent danger in transporting volatile or heavy cargo. The overturning of the gas truck and logging truck not only caused traumatic injuries but also introduced additional hazards, including spilled fuel and obstructed roadways from scattered timber.
Truck crashes in rural corridors often require advanced medical response and complex cleanup efforts. Victims may face extended hospital stays, significant medical expenses, and long-term recovery. Legal guidance and access to victim support resources are critical, especially in multi-party crashes where liability can be difficult to determine.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a collision involving a commercial vehicle in Florida, it’s vital to seek medical care and understand your rights as early as possible.
