Taylor, TX (September 20, 2025) – Authorities are investigating a tragic motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a young man Friday evening in eastern Williamson County. The fatal collision occurred around 5:56 p.m. in the 13400 block of Chandler Rd, near the intersection with County Road 366.
Emergency responders from Williamson County EMS were the first to arrive and immediately began performing lifesaving efforts on the motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Billy LaFrance of Jarrell. Despite their attempts, LaFrance was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The crash involved LaFrance’s motorcycle and a white 2021 Toyota Corolla driven by 23-year-old Melany Espana of Arlington. Authorities reported that Espana sustained minor injuries and was transported to Scott & White Hospital in Taylor for medical evaluation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the Corolla was turning south onto County Road 366 when LaFrance was unable to avoid a collision. The impact caused catastrophic trauma, and investigators are continuing to examine contributing factors, including right-of-way decisions, speed, and visibility at the time of the crash.
The Taylor Police Department has not released further details but confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Billy LaFrance during this incredibly difficult time.
Motorcycle Fatalities in Texas
Collisions involving motorcycles and passenger vehicles often end in tragedy, especially on rural or semi-rural roads like Chandler Rd near County Rd 366. In this devastating crash, the motorcyclist’s inability to avoid a turning vehicle led to a fatal outcome—a common scenario on Texas roads, where visibility and timing during turning maneuvers can have deadly consequences.
Motorcyclists face significantly higher risks than occupants of enclosed vehicles. Without the protection of a steel frame, seatbelts, or airbags, even a low-speed collision can result in catastrophic injuries. Texas consistently ranks among the states with the highest number of motorcycle fatalities each year, and Williamson County has seen its share of serious bike-related accidents—particularly in areas where rural routes meet residential development.
Intersections are particularly dangerous for motorcyclists. A vehicle turning left across the path of an oncoming bike is one of the most frequently cited causes of fatal crashes. Factors like driver inattention, misjudging a motorcycle’s speed, or obstructed views often contribute to these heartbreaking outcomes.
For families affected by fatal crashes, the road ahead involves more than just grief. Navigating the legal, financial, and emotional aftermath can be overwhelming. In Texas, surviving family members may have the right to pursue wrongful death claims when a loved one is killed due to another party’s actions or negligence. Documentation such as official crash reports, witness statements, and medical examiner findings play a critical role in these cases.
