Tippecanoe County, IN (January 17, 2026) – A woman was killed and several others were injured in a three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on State Road 25 near County Road 700 North, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred around 5:16 a.m. on January 17. First responders arrived to find two passenger vehicles and a semi-tractor-trailer involved in the incident. Investigators determined that a 2016 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on SR 25 when the driver lost control due to icy road conditions. The Ford spun and was struck by a 2011 Hyundai, which was also heading north.
Both the driver and passenger of the Ford sustained minor injuries. After the initial impact, the Ford veered off the roadway. Moments later, the Hyundai was rear-ended by a Volvo semi-tractor-trailer, resulting in a catastrophic second impact.
A female passenger seated in the back seat of the Hyundai was killed upon impact with the semi. Her name has not been released and will be confirmed pending an autopsy, expected Tuesday. The driver of the Hyundai and another passenger sustained minor injuries, while the semi driver was unharmed.
The crash scene required significant cleanup and investigation. All vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts, and airbags deployed as designed. Authorities have stated that no drugs or alcohol are suspected, though standard toxicology screenings have been performed in accordance with protocol.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the sequence of events. Roadway conditions and vehicle dynamics remain under review as part of the ongoing case.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this tragic crash. We also extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
