Explosive Device Hazards and Safety Awareness in Pennsylvania
Accidental explosions involving fireworks or pyrotechnic materials are rare but devastating. Incidents like the one in Towamensing Township emphasize the importance of strict handling protocols, even for individuals with experience in recreational pyrotechnics. Devices that may appear stable can still pose lethal risks due to faulty fuses, improper storage, or unexpected ignition sources.
According to Pennsylvania safety authorities, private possession or use of commercial-grade pyrotechnics without proper licensing is both dangerous and potentially illegal. Even smaller consumer-grade fireworks can cause catastrophic injuries, particularly to the hands, face, and legs, and often result in hospitalization or death.
