Trenton, NJ – 8 Injured, Including Firefighters, After Flames Spread to Multiple Homes

May 13, 2025

Trenton, NJ (May 13, 2025) – A devastating fire broke out in Trenton, New Jersey, on Monday, May 12, displacing two dozen people and injuring eight individuals, including four firefighters. The blaze started just before 10 a.m. in the unit block of Brown Street and quickly spread to four homes, with flames reaching the top floor and roof of the buildings.

Firefighters battled heavy flames, managing to rescue several people from windows as the fire rapidly spread from one residence to another. The fire eventually engulfed multiple homes, including the home of longtime resident Harriet Tucker, who expressed heartbreak, saying, “This is what I call my home, but it’s gone. It’s gone.” Tucker had lived on the block for 25 years.

Battalion Chief Brian Butler recalled the harrowing scene, stating, “First engine pulled up, there were people at the windows, so they rescued a few people coming out of the windows.”

The injured include eight people, four of whom were firefighters. Fortunately, most of the injuries were reported to be minor. A total of 24 individuals have been displaced by the fire, with local authorities working to provide shelter and support for those affected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities looking into the possibility that it started in the rear of the homes, potentially linked to a work truck. The investigation is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this devastating fire, especially the injured individuals and the families who have lost their homes.

Fire Safety and Prevention in New Jersey

Fires that spread to multiple homes, as seen in this incident on Brown Street, serve as stark reminders of the importance of fire prevention and safety. New Jersey has experienced an increase in residential fires in recent years, and this tragic event highlights the need for both homeowners and local authorities to prioritize fire safety measures.

The rapid spread of this fire underscores the critical role that firefighters play in protecting the community. Fire safety precautions such as working smoke detectors, fire-resistant materials, and clear escape routes are essential in minimizing the risks of such devastating events.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a fire, seeking assistance from local fire safety professionals and legal experts can help navigate the recovery process, from securing temporary housing to filing insurance claims for damages.
