Troy, MO (September 3, 2025) – A tragic collision on MO-W just south of Moody Ln claimed the life of one driver and left another with injuries Tuesday morning in Lincoln County.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m., when a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Troy, veered off the right side of the roadway. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to reenter the road and skid across lanes before exiting again to the south. At that moment, a southbound 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup struck the passenger side of the Cobalt.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and came to rest off the south side of the roadway. The Cobalt’s driver, who was not wearing a safety device, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her remains were transported by Carter-Rick Funeral Home. The Colorado’s driver, a 65-year-old woman from Louisiana, MO, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Lincoln County Ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis.
Troopers from Troop C, including Major Crash Investigation Unit #2, responded to the scene along with B & B Towing to clear the wreckage. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to this fatal event.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life and wish a swift recovery to the injured driver.
Fatal Collisions in Missouri
Tuesday morning’s fatal accident on MO-W paints a heartbreaking picture of how quickly road conditions and driver responses can culminate in disaster. The incident, which began with a single vehicle veering off the road and ended in a two-vehicle collision, illustrates the devastating consequences of overcorrection—a common factor in rural roadway crashes.
Lincoln County, with its mix of rural highways and limited shoulders, often sees crashes that escalate in severity due to narrow recovery margins. In this case, the driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt lost control, and despite efforts to regain direction, the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a pickup traveling southbound.
The outcome was fatal for the Cobalt driver, whose lack of a safety device further increased the severity of the crash. Seatbelt usage remains a critical safety concern in Missouri, where fatalities are disproportionately high among unbelted drivers. Meanwhile, the surviving driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, escaped with only minor injuries.
Crashes like these ripple beyond the scene, leaving families with unanswered questions, emotional trauma, and significant logistical challenges. When lives are lost on the road, victims’ loved ones are often left to navigate complex investigations, medical costs, funeral arrangements, and legal matters—all while grieving.
