Tucson, AZ (September 1, 2025) – A 25-year-old woman lost her life early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Drexel Rd and South Palo Verde Rd in Tucson. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim as Fran Molina, the driver of one of the vehicles involved.
The fatal collision occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. and involved a Buick Lucerne and a flatbed tow truck. Deputies say Molina was driving the Buick when the crash took place. Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene, but Molina was pronounced dead on-site due to the severity of her injuries.
Three passengers riding in the Buick at the time of the accident sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The operator of the flatbed tow truck was not injured, according to authorities.
No further details regarding the events that led to the collision have been released. The intersection was temporarily closed as investigators worked to collect evidence and reconstruct the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Fran Molina during this incredibly difficult time.
Deadly Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Tucson’s Early Morning Hours
Crashes like the one that claimed the life of Fran Molina are a sobering reminder of the dangers that can arise during early morning travel—when visibility is limited and road conditions can vary significantly. The area around East Drexel Rd and South Palo Verde Rd sees regular commuter and industrial traffic, making it a particularly active intersection, even in the pre-dawn hours.
Accidents involving tow trucks or other commercial vehicles often result in more severe impacts due to size and weight differences. In this case, the combination of a passenger vehicle and a flatbed truck underscores the vulnerability of smaller cars in high-impact collisions.
Early-stage investigations typically focus on right-of-way adherence, speed, and potential fatigue or distraction—common factors during overnight and early morning driving. As deputies work to piece together the events that led to this tragic crash, the community is left grieving another preventable roadway loss.
Victims’ families are often left with more than emotional devastation. The aftermath of a fatal accident brings funeral expenses, medical costs for surviving passengers, and potential legal proceedings—all of which can add immense pressure in the wake of loss.
