Tucson, AZ (August 11, 2025) – A woman was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Oracle Rd and Roger Rd, according to the Tucson Police Department. The incident occurred when a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe lost control, struck a curb, crossed the roadway, and hit a wall.
Police say 24-year-old Inez Marie Romero was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver, a 26-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities believe the driver was speeding and impaired at the time of the crash.
Investigators also stated that the Tahoe may have been involved in a street takeover event earlier in the day. While no criminal charges or citations have yet been issued, the investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Romero and hope for accountability in this tragic incident.
Impaired Driving Crashes in Arizona
Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of fatal accidents in Arizona, often resulting in devastating consequences for victims and their families. High speeds combined with alcohol or drug impairment drastically reduce a driver’s ability to control a vehicle, increasing the risk of deadly crashes like Sunday’s incident in Tucson.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, a significant percentage of fatal crashes involve drivers who are over the legal blood alcohol limit or under the influence of drugs. Safety officials emphasize the importance of designating a sober driver, using rideshare services, or calling a cab rather than getting behind the wheel impaired.
