Union Twp, OH (August 10, 2025) – A tragic three-vehicle collision late Sunday morning on State Route 73 in Clinton County left one woman dead and a young man seriously injured. The crash occurred around 11 a.m. near Mile Post 6, according to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Investigators determined that a westbound 1998 Dodge Ram, driven by a 19-year-old man from Indiana, failed to negotiate a curve, veered left of center, and collided head-on with an eastbound 2023 Buick Enclave driven by 56-year-old Lisa Bush of Maineville. The impact was severe, leaving significant debris across the roadway. Moments later, a westbound 2021 Ford F-250 struck the debris, disabling his vehicle but leaving the driver, a 76-year-old man from Florida, unharmed. Medics pronounced Bush dead at the scene, while the 19-year-old was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. The crash remains under active investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating incident.
Head-On Collisions in Ohio
Head-on collisions, like the one on SR-73 in Union Twp, are among the most dangerous types of roadway accidents due to the combined force of impact when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide. In Ohio, rural state routes with curves and limited shoulders often see a higher rate of such crashes, particularly when drivers lose control due to speed, distraction, or road conditions. Data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety indicates that head-on collisions account for a disproportionately high percentage of fatal crashes statewide, even though they occur less frequently than rear-end or side-impact collisions.
This section of SR-73 is a two-lane roadway with limited separation between opposing traffic, increasing the potential for vehicles to cross into oncoming lanes during driver error or emergencies. Drivers are urged to reduce speed when approaching curves and remain alert for unexpected changes in road conditions. Even momentary inattention can have devastating consequences, as seen in Sunday’s collision.
Following a serious crash, immediate emergency response is critical. Law enforcement agencies work to secure the scene, aid the injured, and collect evidence that may determine the cause of the collision. Survivors and families of victims may face long recovery periods, mounting medical costs, and emotional trauma. It is important for those impacted to understand their options for seeking assistance, whether through medical, counseling, or legal channels.
