Verona, NY (August 19, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision in the town of Verona on Monday evening sent one person to the hospital and resulted in multiple traffic citations, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 365 and Blackmans Corners Rd at approximately 6:45 p.m. on August 18.
Investigators reported that 24-year-old Vamsi-Krishna Adusumilli was traveling on Blackmans Corners Rd and attempted to cross over Route 365. At that moment, 40-year-old Rhiannon Kaplan of Vernon was driving westbound on Route 365. Adusumilli’s vehicle entered the intersection and failed to yield the right-of-way, causing Kaplan’s car to collide with his.
Kaplan sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported by Vineall Ambulance to Wynn Hospital in Utica for evaluation and treatment. Adusumilli was unharmed but received traffic citations related to failure to yield. The Verona Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist with traffic control and scene safety.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and court proceedings are expected to follow. Our thoughts are with the injured party, and we hope for a swift and full recovery.
Intersection Accidents and Right-of-Way Errors in New York
Crashes at rural intersections—like Route 365 and Blackmans Corners Rd in Verona—are often the result of misjudged gaps, visibility issues, or failure to yield. In this case, the westbound driver on a main state route had the right-of-way, and the failure to yield from the side road led to a significant collision and injury.
Route 365 serves as a high-speed corridor through Oneida County, making cross traffic especially dangerous without full caution. Side-impact crashes, such as the one that occurred Monday evening, place drivers at high risk due to the limited structural protection on the sides of vehicles. Even with seatbelts and airbags, these crashes can result in serious injury—particularly to those struck on the driver’s side.
Though the injuries in this incident were not considered life-threatening, victims may still face weeks of recovery, medical bills, lost work time, and psychological distress following the trauma. Additionally, failure-to-yield violations carry legal consequences and can influence civil claims for damages.
Emergency services from Vineall Ambulance and the Verona Fire Department worked efficiently to ensure the injured party received timely care and the scene was cleared safely. These rapid response efforts play a key role in limiting further harm and ensuring traffic resumes safely.
