Vigo County, IN (January 31, 2026) – A tragic crash claimed the lives of two individuals early Saturday morning in Vigo County. The fatal collision occurred just after 7:00 a.m. in the area of East US Highway 40 near Tabortown, prompting a response from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical personnel.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find two vehicles involved in the serious crash. Emergency responders from Vigo County Fire and Rescue worked to assess the victims, but tragically, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that its Fatal Accident Crash Team responded to the scene to begin an investigation. As of now, the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities have not released additional details regarding contributing factors.
Due to the severity of the crash, East US Highway 40 was shut down for several hours as investigators worked to document the scene and remove debris. The roadway has since reopened.
