Walton, KY (April 10, 2025) – A devastating crash involving a dump truck and an SUV claimed the lives of two elderly women Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Beaver Rd in Walton. The collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. and ended with the dump truck crashing into Boonedocks Pub and Grub, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. Tragically, 91-year-old Eva Mulberry and 89-year-old Betty Hillard, passengers in the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 66-year-old driver of the SUV, a woman from Corinth, was critically injured and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the dump truck, which was loaded with gravel, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to UC Medical Center for evaluation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the SUV and dump truck collided in the intersection, though the exact circumstances are still under investigation. After impact, the dump truck left the roadway and slammed into the Boonedocks Pub and Grub building, causing structural damage but no reported injuries inside the establishment.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash, including factors such as right-of-way, speed, and potential mechanical issues with the dump truck.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of Eva Mulberry and Betty Hillard during this heartbreaking time. We also extend our wishes for a full recovery to the injured driver.
Fatal Dump Truck Crashes: High-Impact Collisions in Northern Kentucky
Crashes involving commercial vehicles like dump trucks are particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of the trucks, especially when loaded with heavy materials such as gravel. When these vehicles are involved in collisions with passenger vehicles, the results are often tragic—as seen in Tuesday’s crash in Walton.
Northern Kentucky’s growing traffic volumes, particularly around highway intersections such as U.S. 42 and Beaver Rd, present increasing risks for high-impact crashes. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, dump truck collisions are relatively rare but disproportionately result in fatalities or critical injuries due to the sheer force of impact.
Local and state agencies continue to emphasize commercial vehicle safety through inspections, speed enforcement, and driver awareness. However, intersections like this one—where commercial and residential traffic converge—require extra caution from all drivers.
If you or someone you know has been affected by a serious crash involving a commercial vehicle, seeking immediate medical attention and legal support is crucial for both recovery and accountability.
