Warren County, MO (April 1, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash involving traffic congestion on Interstate 70 left one woman injured Monday evening in Warren County. The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on March 31 near the 197-mile marker on the westbound side of the highway and was investigated by Trooper B. Gregory of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C.
The crash took place when a 2015 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 70-year-old woman from Fulton, MO, began to slow down due to traffic ahead. A 2013 Dodge Dart, driven by a 53-year-old man from Imperial, MO, was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the Toyota.
The Toyota sustained total damage and was removed from the scene by Prime Towing. The driver of the Corolla was wearing a seatbelt but suffered moderate injuries. She was transported by Warren County EMS to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis for treatment. The Dodge Dart sustained moderate damage and was also towed by a private service. The driver of the Dart was not reported as injured.
Traffic on I-70 was temporarily affected while emergency crews assisted with cleanup and medical response.
We wish the injured woman a full and swift recovery following this collision.
Traffic Congestion and Rear-End Collisions in Missouri
Rear-end crashes remain one of the most common types of accidents on Missouri highways, especially during times of traffic congestion. Monday’s incident on westbound I-70 serves as another reminder of how quickly a high-speed commute can turn dangerous when drivers are caught off guard by sudden slowdowns.
In this case, the driver of the Toyota Corolla appropriately reduced speed due to congestion. Unfortunately, the following driver was unable to respond in time to prevent a collision. These types of crashes are particularly dangerous for elderly drivers or passengers, who may be more vulnerable to injury even when seatbelts are in use.
Interstate 70 is a heavily traveled route in Missouri, stretching across the state and connecting major cities. With high volumes of cars and trucks, unexpected braking is common—making attentive driving and adequate following distance essential.
For victims, the consequences of even a moderate injury can extend beyond the initial medical treatment. There are often complications involving vehicle damage, lost time, insurance claims, and long-term recovery planning.
