Warren County, MO (August 14, 2025) – Two people were injured in a rear-end collision that occurred Wednesday afternoon on the westbound side of North Outer Road 70, just west of Stracks Church Road. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck, and resulted in significant vehicle damage and emergency medical transport for both occupants of the car.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 12:24 p.m. when a 2014 Kia Optima, traveling westbound behind a 2003 International 9000 Eagle semi-truck, failed to notice the truck slowing to make a right-hand turn. The Kia’s driver was unable to stop in time, and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of the commercial truck.
The driver of the Kia, a 21-year-old woman from Warrenton, MO, suffered moderate injuries despite wearing a seatbelt. A 25-year-old male passenger in the Kia, also from Warrenton, was not restrained and sustained moderate injuries as well. Both were transported by the Warren County Ambulance District to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis for treatment.
The Kia was totaled in the crash and towed from the scene by Prime Towing. The truck, operated by a 65-year-old man from Lake St. Louis, sustained only minor damage and was able to be driven away. No injuries were reported for the truck driver, who was also properly restrained.
We extend our sincere wishes for a full and timely recovery to both injured individuals.
Commercial Vehicle Collisions on Missouri Roadways
Crashes involving passenger vehicles and commercial trucks are often serious due to the weight and structure of large trucks—even when the truck sustains only minor damage. The crash on North Outer Road 70 in Warren County illustrates how quickly rear-end accidents can escalate, particularly when visibility or driver attention is reduced.
Rear-end collisions like this frequently occur when a driver misjudges a slowing or turning vehicle ahead, especially on roads with limited passing options or turning lanes. Even at moderate speeds, the consequences can be severe for smaller vehicles striking the rear of a large truck.
For the injured individuals in this case, the physical impact is only part of the ordeal. They may now face hospital stays, rehabilitation, vehicle replacement challenges, and lost income—all while trying to recover physically. Those without seatbelts, like the Kia passenger, often face greater risk of injury, reinforcing the importance of seatbelt use for all vehicle occupants.
Missouri traffic authorities continue efforts to educate drivers on the importance of following distances and situational awareness, especially when sharing the road with larger vehicles. Additionally, intersections and turn zones near commercial or industrial areas are being reviewed for potential safety enhancements.
