Warren County, MO (August 21, 2025) – A traffic collision involving two vehicles occurred late Wednesday morning on MO-47 Southbound, just south of Quarry Rd, resulting in injuries and significant vehicle damage. The crash was reported at approximately 11:35 a.m. and was investigated by Msgt. M.W. Hedlund of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C.
According to the crash report, the incident happened when a 2015 Honda Civic, driven by a 74-year-old man from Warrenton, slowed and stopped in the roadway in preparation for a left turn. A 2007 Ford Explorer, also traveling southbound and driven by an 85-year-old man from Warrenton, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Honda.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by Prime Towing.
An 80-year-old female passenger in the Explorer suffered minor injuries in the crash. She was properly restrained and was transported by the Warren County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital in Washington for evaluation and treatment. No other injuries were reported.

We wish the injured passenger a full and swift recovery.
Rear-End Collisions Involving Older Drivers on Missouri Highways
Crashes like the one on MO-47 near Quarry Rd highlight the risks associated with rear-end collisions, particularly when vehicles are slowing or stopped to make left turns on undivided rural highways. While both drivers were wearing seat belts and no life-threatening injuries were reported, the impact was forceful enough to cause extensive vehicle damage and hospital transport.
Missouri’s aging driver population presents unique challenges on the road. Reaction times may be slower, and judgment in following distances or braking may be impaired. In this case, an 85-year-old driver failed to react in time to a slowing vehicle, resulting in a collision that could have been more serious if not for proper restraint use.
Rear-end crashes are among the most common types of traffic accidents, and they frequently result in neck, back, and head injuries for occupants—especially vulnerable seniors. Injured victims, even when injuries seem minor, may require days or weeks of recovery and monitoring.
For those involved, especially passengers who were not at fault, the aftermath may include medical bills, vehicle replacement, and navigating insurance claims. When multiple parties from the same community are involved, these situations can become even more personal and complex.
