Warren Twp., OH (February 6, 2025) – Two women lost their lives in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Ohio 7 Wednesday evening. The fatal collision occurred near milepost 17 around 6:55 p.m., according to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Josylin A. Cunningham, 26, of Coolville, was driving a 2018 GMC Yukon southbound on Ohio 7 when a 2016 Lexus RX 350, driven by Eva-Maria Hill, 79, of Marietta, crossed the median from the northbound lanes and struck Cunningham’s vehicle head-on. Both Cunningham and Hill sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have stated that neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash. Both women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Although the region was experiencing rain and freezing temperatures on Wednesday evening, it has not been confirmed whether weather conditions played a role in the accident. The crash remains under active investigation.
Multiple emergency response teams arrived at the scene, including the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Marietta Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Crash Reconstruction Unit. The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control, while Westfall and Shea’s Towing handled vehicle recovery.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of Josylin Cunningham and Eva-Maria Hill during this incredibly difficult time.
Head-on Collisions in Ohio
Head-on collisions, like the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two women on Ohio 7, are among the most catastrophic types of traffic accidents. These crashes often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the force of impact when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collide.
While the exact cause of this collision remains under investigation, factors that frequently contribute to head-on crashes include driver distraction, medical emergencies, fatigue, or adverse road conditions. In this case, weather may have been a potential factor, as rain and freezing temperatures can create slick, hazardous road surfaces, increasing the likelihood of losing control of a vehicle.
Ohio 7, like many highways across the state, sees a significant amount of traffic, and median crossovers can be especially dangerous. Even with modern safety features and seatbelt use, the human body is vulnerable to the forces generated in high-speed, head-on collisions.
Drivers can take precautions to reduce the risk of such accidents by remaining alert, avoiding distractions, and adjusting their speed according to road and weather conditions. In areas experiencing freezing temperatures, it’s essential to drive cautiously, as black ice can form on the road surface, posing a hidden danger to motorists.
For families affected by fatal accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming, both emotionally and legally. Support from the community and access to professional resources can be critical during this time.
