Warsaw Twp, MN – Two Injured in Accident at Hwy 60 & Dalton Ave

September 23, 2025

Warsaw Twp, MN (September 23, 2025) – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 60 and Dalton Ave in Rice County’s Warsaw Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened around 8:00 a.m. when a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse traveling eastbound on Hwy 60 collided with a 2017 Ford Escape heading south on Dalton Ave. The vehicles struck each other in the intersection, causing significant damage and leading to an emergency response from Rice County Sheriff’s deputies and North Ambulance.

Both drivers were transported to District One Hospital in Faribault with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Traverse was identified as 44-year-old Emily Jo Wernimont of Waseca, while the driver of the Escape was 72-year-old Ricky Harold Copp of Faribault. Authorities confirmed that both individuals were wearing seat belts and that airbags deployed properly in both vehicles.

Road conditions at the time were reported as dry, and no alcohol use was suspected in the crash. The case remains under review by the State Patrol.

We extend our well wishes to both individuals for a smooth and complete recovery.

Intersection Crashes in Minnesota

Crashes at intersections like Hwy 60 and Dalton Ave are common across rural and semi-rural parts of Minnesota. These collisions often result from factors such as visibility limitations, misjudged right-of-way, or insufficient reaction time—especially where cross traffic enters or exits busy highways.

Tuesday morning’s crash involved two drivers following the rules of the road, yet the impact still caused injuries and required hospital treatment. Incidents like this are a reminder that even with clear conditions and sober driving, intersections can still present dangerous situations—particularly when speeds are high or driver attention momentarily lapses.

While the injuries in this incident were non-life-threatening, the ripple effects of such crashes—medical costs, time off work, vehicle replacement, and emotional strain—can take a toll on victims and their families. That’s why it’s important for those involved to know their options, from insurance claims to accessing support services and legal guidance if needed.

For Rice County residents and Minnesota drivers statewide, this crash underscores the value of defensive driving and intersection awareness. Proper signage, clear line of sight, and consistent caution are key in reducing future collisions at rural crossroads.
