Commercial Vehicle Collisions in Illinois: What to Know
Accidents involving semi-trucks and other large commercial vehicles, like the one on I-64 in Washington Park, often result in serious injuries due to the sheer size and weight of the trucks. When multiple vehicles are involved—especially when there’s an ejection or severe trauma—it underscores the catastrophic potential of these crashes. Illinois has seen a rise in large truck accidents over the past several years, with congested interstates and high-speed traffic contributing to the risk.
Victims of commercial vehicle crashes may be eligible for compensation from multiple parties, including drivers, employers, and insurance companies. These cases often require a detailed investigation, which is why units like the Crash Scene Reconstruction Unit were called to this incident. It’s important for victims or their families to preserve any possible evidence, including photographs, witness accounts, and medical documentation.
In many instances, commercial vehicle collisions also require a review of driver logs, maintenance records, and whether the vehicle was in compliance with Department of Transportation safety standards. Accidents like the one under the IL-111 overpass can have long-lasting physical, emotional, and financial impacts on everyone involved.
