Washington Twp, OH (August 19, 2025) – A person riding an electric bicycle was injured Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle at a busy intersection in Washington Township. The crash occurred at approximately 8:16 a.m. on August 18 near the intersection of Paragon Rd and Spring Valley Pike, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that the e-bike rider was traveling across Paragon Rd in a marked crosswalk on Spring Valley Pike when a driver turning north onto Paragon Rd collided with them. First responders arrived shortly after the incident and treated the injured individual at the scene for what were described as minor injuries.
Although the injuries were not life-threatening, the crash led to increased traffic delays in the area during the morning commute. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and has not announced whether any citations have been issued.
We extend our well wishes to the injured rider and hope for a smooth and complete recovery.
E-Bike Collisions in Ohio’s Suburban Intersections
As electric bicycles become more common in suburban communities like Washington Township, crashes involving e-bikes are becoming a more frequent concern—particularly at intersections where vehicle drivers and non-motorized road users share space. Monday’s collision at Paragon Rd and Spring Valley Pike highlights the risks faced by vulnerable road users, even when they are traveling in marked crosswalks.
In this case, the turning driver failed to yield to the crossing cyclist, a scenario that is both common and preventable. Right-of-way misunderstandings, blind spots, and distractions can all contribute to such incidents—especially during the morning rush hour when visibility may be compromised by sun glare or increased congestion.
Even when injuries are classified as minor, cyclists and e-bike users may suffer delayed symptoms such as whiplash, muscle strains, or psychological trauma. Additionally, damage to electric bicycles—which can cost thousands of dollars—adds a financial strain to the physical recovery.
These types of collisions also bring to light the need for increased driver awareness regarding nontraditional road users and the importance of yielding to all individuals in crosswalks. Ongoing education and enforcement play key roles in improving safety at intersections like Paragon Rd and Spring Valley Pike.
