West Jordan, UT (August 27, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision in West Jordan Tuesday afternoon left both drivers hospitalized with serious injuries and prompted a full emergency response, including an extrication operation.
The crash occurred around 1:30 PM near the intersection of 3400 West and 7800 South, where one vehicle was reportedly turning off Old Brigham Highway when it collided with another traveling through the intersection on 7800 South. According to Sgt. Andrew Hercules of the West Jordan Police Department, the force of the impact was severe enough that one of the drivers had to be extricated from their vehicle by emergency crews.
Both drivers were transported to nearby hospitals in serious condition. No other occupants or vehicles were involved in the incident. Authorities have not released the identities of the individuals at this time, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the West Jordan Police Department.
Traffic in the area was temporarily shut down while first responders worked to secure the scene and clear the intersection. Our thoughts are with both injured individuals and their families during this time of recovery.
Intersection Crashes in Utah
Intersections are among the most dangerous locations for vehicle collisions in Utah, particularly in suburban areas like West Jordan where fast-moving traffic often intersects with turning vehicles. Tuesday’s crash near 3400 W and 7800 S illustrates the serious consequences that can occur when vehicles collide during turn maneuvers—especially at high-traffic junctions.
In this incident, preliminary reports indicate that one vehicle was attempting to turn off Old Brigham Highway when it entered the path of another traveling on 7800 South. This kind of angle-impact crash frequently leads to severe injuries, especially when speed is a factor or when the impact occurs on the driver’s side.
West Jordan’s rapidly expanding roadway network sees a mix of residential, commuter, and commercial traffic. With this growth, intersections have become increasingly congested, making it crucial for drivers to obey right-of-way rules, approach turns cautiously, and remain alert for oncoming vehicles.
Crashes that involve extrication, as seen in this case, often indicate a high degree of vehicle intrusion—something that greatly increases the risk of traumatic injuries. Victims of such crashes may face long recovery periods, extensive medical care, and challenges dealing with insurance or legal follow-up.
