West Los Angeles, CA (April 23, 2025) – A chaotic hit-and-run crash involving at least three vehicles caused major delays and sent several people to the hospital Tuesday night on westbound Interstate 10 just west of La Cienega Blvd.
Initial reports indicate that the incident unfolded shortly before 9:52 p.m. when a vehicle traveling westbound collided with a stalled car in the freeway lanes. The stalled vehicle, described as “blacked out,” was reportedly hit by a black SUV, which led to a chain reaction involving a third vehicle. A witness at the scene reported hearing the crash while traveling on the opposite side of the freeway.
One of the drivers involved in the collision fled the scene on foot, reportedly walking southbound on Kincardine Avenue while holding a wine bottle and inhaling from a balloon. Law enforcement officials believe this individual was the same person last seen in a gray Infiniti G35, now found abandoned at the intersection of Kincardine and Livonia.
In the immediate aftermath, traffic lanes were partially shut down as first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department provided care to the injured. One individual reported a knee injury and was treated by paramedics on site before being transported for further medical attention. Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles, while officers from both CHP and LAPD launched an active search for the hit-and-run suspect.
Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews in hopes of identifying all individuals involved and determining the exact cause of the crash.
Our deepest concern goes out to those injured in this collision, and we hope for their swift and complete recovery.
Hit-and-Run Collisions in California
When drivers flee the scene of an accident, the impact ripples far beyond the initial crash. Tuesday night’s incident on I-10 highlights the dangers of hit-and-run collisions—an unfortunate and growing problem in California’s urban centers.
In this case, a stalled vehicle on the freeway created a hazardous situation that rapidly escalated into a multi-car crash, followed by the alarming flight of a driver suspected of being under the influence. These actions not only complicate emergency response efforts but also delay crucial medical treatment and heighten risk for everyone involved.
Hit-and-run cases in California are often prosecuted severely, especially when injuries are involved. Yet despite the legal consequences, such incidents remain common. Los Angeles alone reports thousands of hit-and-run accidents each year, many of which result in injuries or worse. These cases create a serious burden for victims—who are left to deal with injuries, financial losses, and emotional distress while the responsible party evades accountability.
Situations like these underscore the need for increased public awareness, stronger deterrents, and improved freeway safety strategies. Measures such as roadside assistance monitoring, intelligent traffic systems, and DUI prevention campaigns have the potential to reduce risks and hold violators accountable more effectively.
For victims, however, the path forward often involves navigating complex insurance claims, accessing medical support, and pursuing legal guidance. Knowing your rights—and having the right resources—can make a significant difference in the outcome.
