West Valley, CA (September 21, 2024) – A fatal collision occurred early Saturday morning on the eastbound side of US-101 at the White Oak Ave on-ramp in the West Valley area of Los Angeles. The incident was first reported at approximately 6:52 a.m. and led to a full shutdown of the White Oak on-ramp as emergency crews responded to the scene.
Los Angeles Fire Department and LAPD officers were already on-site when the California Highway Patrol was requested to assist with traffic control and initiate a full closure of the on-ramp. Despite lifesaving efforts, authorities confirmed the presence of a fatality at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been made public pending notification of next of kin.
Emergency responders coordinated with the LA County Coroner’s Office, which was dispatched from downtown Los Angeles. Delays in access and the need for multiple notifications extended the recovery and investigation timeline well into the afternoon.
The freeway on-ramp was cleared and reopened to traffic by 1:51 p.m., following a multi-hour response and the conclusion of investigative efforts by CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and other agencies involved.
The incident remains under investigation, and no additional details have been provided regarding the number of vehicles involved or contributing factors to the crash.
We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life in this tragic incident.
