Whatcom County, WA (September 1, 2025) – Early on Monday morning, a serious crash on Interstate 5 southbound near the U.S.-Canada border resulted in lane closures and at least one injury, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The incident was first reported just after 12:15 a.m., when WSDOT noted a partial lane blockage on southbound I-5. By 2:50 a.m., the crash had fully blocked southbound lanes, prompting emergency crews to respond and assist those involved. Northbound lanes were also temporarily closed as authorities managed the scene and ensured safety.
A WSP trooper confirmed that at least one individual involved in the crash was transported to a hospital. The extent of their injuries has not yet been released. Emergency responders worked quickly to stabilize victims, clear debris, and reopen the roadway. Southbound lanes were reopened around 6 a.m., allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.
