Whiteside County, IL (January 17, 2026) – A devastating two-vehicle collision on Illinois Route 84 left one person dead and two others seriously injured Thursday night, according to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred around 9:21 p.m. near Spring Valley Road and prompted an extensive emergency response.
When deputies and rescue personnel arrived on scene, they discovered three individuals with severe injuries inside the wrecked vehicles. Emergency crews worked quickly to extricate all three victims before transporting them to a hospital in Clinton, Iowa.
Tragically, one of the drivers succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The two remaining occupants were also seriously hurt but are expected to survive, according to officials. As of Friday, the names of those involved have not been released, pending family notifications.
Illinois Route 84 was shut down for approximately five hours overnight as law enforcement and recovery crews worked to process the scene and clear debris. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, and no further details have been provided regarding contributing factors or potential citations.
