Wichita, KS (September 18, 2025) – Wichita police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect following a deadly hit-and-run crash in Midtown on Wednesday night. The collision, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. at Broadway and Murdock, claimed the life of 57-year-old Daniel Forshey.
According to investigators, Forshey was riding his bicycle eastbound on Murdock when he was struck by a white 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck then reportedly entered a nearby Jump Start parking lot before fleeing southbound on Topeka. Emergency responders arriving at the scene found Forshey lying in the roadway, where he was pronounced dead.
The Wichita Police Accident Follow-Up Unit interviewed witnesses and reviewed video surveillance that helped identify the suspect vehicle. By early Thursday morning, officers with Patrol East located the Dodge Ram and arrested the driver without incident. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are working to determine what led to the crash and subsequent flight from the scene.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Daniel Forshey during this devastating time.
Hit-and-Run Crashes in Kansas
This fatal incident at Broadway and Murdock underscores the dangers posed by hit-and-run crashes, which add another layer of trauma for victims’ families by delaying accountability. Wichita, like many cities across Kansas, continues to struggle with collisions involving vulnerable road users such as bicyclists, who face heightened risks when sharing roads with larger vehicles.
Hit-and-run collisions often complicate investigations, as locating suspects can take time. In this case, the quick recovery of the suspect vehicle and arrest offer some measure of accountability, though the loss of life remains immeasurable. For families, sudden tragedies like this bring emotional, financial, and legal challenges that can persist long after the scene is cleared.
Kansas law imposes serious penalties for fleeing the scene of an accident, particularly those resulting in injury or death. Still, enforcement alone cannot undo the devastation caused. Safer road designs, improved lighting, and heightened driver awareness are critical in reducing the frequency of such incidents.
For those impacted by deadly crashes, resources are available to help families cope with grief, navigate insurance and legal processes, and find community support.
When lives are cut short in hit-and-run crashes, families deserve both answers and resources.
