Williamsburg, IN – One Killed, Others Injured in Motorcycle Crash on US-35 at Sycamore St

September 4, 2025

Williamsburg, IN (September 4, 2025) – A serious motorcycle crash on Monday evening claimed the life of one person and left two others with injuries at the intersection of North US-35 and Sycamore Street in Williamsburg. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. and involved a Ford F-150 pulling a flatbed trailer and a motorcycle carrying two adults.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle, driven by an adult from Ottawa, Illinois, attempted to pass the Ford in a no-passing zone just as the truck was making a turn onto Sycamore Street. The motorcycle collided with the trailer being towed by the pickup.

Bystanders rushed to help the injured, but tragically, 41-year-old Kelly Rick died from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the motorcycle and the driver of the Ford truck were both taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released further details on possible citations or contributing factors beyond the no-passing maneuver.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Kelly Rick and wish a full recovery to those who were injured.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Indiana

Motorcycle crashes in Indiana often result in devastating injuries or fatalities, particularly when larger vehicles or trailers are involved. The collision at US-35 and Sycamore Street in Williamsburg is a tragic example of the risks motorcyclists face when navigating traffic—especially during attempted passing maneuvers.

Rural highways like US-35 often feature narrow lanes and limited visibility near intersections, which increases the danger of overtaking other vehicles. In this case, the attempt to pass in a no-passing zone placed both the motorcycle riders and the truck driver at serious risk.

Helmets, visibility gear, and defensive riding can reduce but not eliminate the hazards posed by larger vehicles or sudden turns. Sadly, even with bystander help and rapid EMS response, the crash still resulted in the loss of life.
