Woodbridge, VA – Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Minnieville Rd & Prince William Pkwy

May 13, 2025

Woodbridge, VA (May 12, 2025) – A 28-year-old man tragically lost his life late Friday night following a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at a busy intersection in Prince William County. The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 10 near the intersection of Minnieville Rd and Prince William Pkwy.

Authorities say the victim, identified as Christian Alexis Zayas of Woodbridge, was operating a 2019 Indian FTR 1200 motorcycle and traveling eastbound on Minnieville Rd when he ran a red light at the intersection. At that moment, a 2019 Kia Soul driven by a 61-year-old woman from Woodbridge was making a left-hand turn from the westbound lanes of Minnieville Rd. The vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection.

Zayas was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia and her passenger sustained minor injuries and were evaluated by medical personnel. Both are expected to recover.

Prince William County Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the department as they work to determine all contributing factors.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Christian Alexis Zayas during this difficult time.

Deadly Motorcycle Collisions in Virginia

Motorcycle accidents such as the fatal crash on Minnieville Rd are devastating reminders of the vulnerabilities motorcyclists face on Virginia’s roads. While motorcyclists account for a small percentage of total drivers, they face a disproportionately high risk of severe or fatal injuries in the event of a collision. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists are over 24 times more likely to die in a crash compared to occupants of passenger vehicles.

The intersection where this crash occurred—Minnieville Rd at Prince William Pkwy—is known for its heavy traffic volume and multi-lane turns, conditions that can be especially hazardous for riders. Nighttime driving adds to the danger, as reduced visibility and misjudgment of distances often contribute to serious crashes.

Reports indicate that Zayas may have entered the intersection against a red light, underscoring the critical need for motorcyclists to strictly adhere to traffic signals and speed regulations. However, this tragic event also highlights the need for heightened awareness among all drivers. Motorcycles can be difficult to spot and are often misjudged in terms of speed and distance—especially when turning or crossing major intersections.

Protective gear, reflective clothing, and the consistent use of headlights are vital safety measures for riders. Still, safe road sharing requires mutual responsibility. Drivers must remain attentive, yield as appropriate, and check mirrors and blind spots thoroughly before turning or merging.

This loss has deeply impacted the local community and serves as a sobering call for greater vigilance and safer practices for everyone on the road.
