Poweshiek Co., IA (June 4, 2026) – One person died, and another was seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon, June 3, after an accident involving a semi-truck and a train in Poweshiek County. The accident happened around 12:45 p.m. on Highway 21 at the Iowa Interstate Railroad tracks between Brooklyn and Victor.
Poweshiek County investigators said a train struck the semi-truck at the crossing, causing more than 20 railroad cars to derail. The semi driver was killed, and a passenger was taken by air ambulance with serious injuries.
The names of those involved were not released in the initial report. People aboard the train, including those in the engine area, had only minor injuries and did not require hospital care.
