Hercules, CA (August 11, 2026) – A motorcyclist died on August 9 after colliding with an SUV on westbound I-80 near Sycamore Ave. in Hercules, Contra Costa County.
The motorcycle rider, a man in his mid-20s from Yuba City, was thrown from the bike after hitting a blue Honda CR-V. Another vehicle then struck the rider before nine additional vehicles became involved in the chain reaction at about 11:30 p.m.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, just west of Sycamore Ave. Two people were hurt in the series of collisions, according to the report.
Westbound I-80 remained closed for about 90 minutes before traffic began moving through some lanes. The interstate was fully reopened roughly four and a half hours later after the wreck was cleared.
The cause of the accident remains under review as additional details are gathered.
