Carbondale, IL (September 13, 2026) – One person died after a motorcycle and car collided Friday night on W. Main St in Carbondale. The two vehicles were traveling westbound when they struck each other around 8:33 p.m. on Friday, September 11.
The motorcyclist, Wayne A. Aydt, 59, of Johnston City, was critically hurt and taken to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.
The roadway remained closed for several hours following the wreck. Westbound traffic from Reed Station Rd to Giant City Rd was blocked from about 9:30 p.m. Friday until approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, September 12.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
