What Should Motorcyclists Know About Safety Near Highway Ramps?
Motorcyclists face added risks near highway ramps because vehicles may change direction or enter traffic lanes with limited space. Drivers turning onto another road should check carefully for motorcycles before completing a turn. Motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles and can be harder to see, especially at night.
Helmets provide important protection for riders and can reduce the severity of head trauma during a traffic crash. Riders should also use headlights, remain visible to other drivers, and maintain a safe following distance.
Drivers can help prevent motorcycle crashes by checking mirrors and blind spots before turning or changing lanes. Giving motorcycles enough space is also important because they may need to adjust their position quickly. Extra caution around highway entrances and exits can help reduce the risk of serious injuries.
