Waterbury, CT (August 23, 2026) – A man was killed after a vehicle struck him on August 21 on South Main St in Waterbury.
The pedestrian suffered a severe head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was from Danbury, but his identity has not been released.
Meralis Rivera-Maldonado, 38, of Waterbury, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and operating under the influence. The police said she showed signs of intoxication after the collision.
According to police, Rivera-Maldonado continued driving after striking the pedestrian and then hit two parked cars before stopping. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
