What Factors Are Commonly Examined Following a Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash?
After a fatal two-vehicle crash, investigators typically review a wide range of details to better understand what occurred. This process usually includes examining vehicle positions, roadway markings, weather conditions, visibility, and traffic patterns at the time of the crash.
Physical evidence from the roadway, including skid marks and debris, may help establish vehicle movements before contact occurred. Investigators may also review surveillance footage, witness statements, and data from onboard vehicle systems when available.
Medical findings can provide additional insight into the severity of injuries and the sequence of events. In many cases, investigators combine information from multiple sources to develop a clearer picture of how the crash unfolded. While initial reports often contain limited information, additional findings may become available as the review progresses and more evidence is analyzed.
