Fort Wayne, IN (August 27, 2026) – A driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 469 collided head-on with a work truck on Wednesday afternoon, August 26.
The collision happened around 1:30 p.m. after a Jeep coming from I-69 entered I-469 against traffic. It eventually struck the work truck, leaving its driver seriously injured.
The work truck driver was taken to a hospital, where the person later died from injuries. The Jeep driver remained hospitalized with serious injuries following the wreck.
Eastbound I-469 was temporarily closed between Maplecrest and St. Joe roads while the roadway was cleared. A public safety alert also warned drivers to avoid the southbound side near mile marker 26, where construction was underway.
The investigation into what led to the wrong-way crash remains ongoing.
