Lincoln, NE (June 17, 2026) – A woman was seriously hurt in a rollover on Highway 77 in southwest Lincoln on Wednesday, June 17, after her vehicle was struck while crossing the highway at Warlick Boulevard.
Emergency units were called to the intersection around 12:02 p.m. Construction work was underway nearby at the time. According to police, an 88-year-old Lincoln woman was driving across Highway 77 on Warlick Boulevard when her vehicle was hit by a southbound vehicle traveling on the highway.
The force of the collision caused the woman’s vehicle to overturn, leaving her trapped inside. Crews used specialized equipment to free the driver from the vehicle before she was taken to a hospital. Police said she was listed in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
Traffic was temporarily rerouted following the crash before normal patterns resumed. Officers are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the wreck and will determine whether any citations are issued. The intersection was also the site of a fatal two-vehicle crash less than a week earlier.
Police continue to gather information as they work to determine the factors that led to the crash.
We send our best wishes to the woman injured in this roadway emergency and hope for her full recovery.
What Factors Can Contribute to Rollover Crashes at Intersections?
Rollover crashes can occur when a vehicle is struck from the side with enough force to destabilize it. Intersections are among the most common places for these types of collisions because vehicles are mostly crossing paths from different directions while traveling at different speeds.
Several factors may influence how a rollover occurs, including vehicle size, speed, roadway design, and the angle at which two vehicles make contact. Larger vehicles, such as SUVs, generally have a higher center of gravity, but passenger cars can also overturn under certain circumstances. Construction zones may add complexity by changing traffic patterns or limiting visibility. After a serious rollover, investigators commonly examine roadway conditions, vehicle damage, witness statements, and available video footage to better understand the sequence of actions that occurred before the vehicles came into contact.
