What Factors Are Often Examined Following a Two-Vehicle Highway Crash?
After a two-vehicle roadway crash, investigators typically review several pieces of information to determine how the vehicles came together. This process may include examining vehicle positions, travel directions, driver statements, roadway markings, and any available camera footage.
Road surface conditions are also reviewed, since weather, visibility, and pavement quality can affect driving behavior. In cases involving vehicles traveling in the same direction, investigators may look at following distance, lane usage, speed, and driver awareness before contact occurred.
Vehicle damage patterns can provide clues about the sequence of movements leading up to the collision. Medical reports may also help document the extent of injuries when someone is hurt. As additional evidence becomes available, a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding the crash can emerge.
