Why Head-on Collisions Usually Result in Serious Injuries
Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of roadway crashes because the force of both vehicles combines at the moment they meet. Even at moderate speeds, occupants may face a higher risk of head trauma, chest injuries, broken bones, and other serious harm. Safety features such as seat belts and airbags can reduce the severity of injuries, but they cannot eliminate the risks created by the combined force of two moving vehicles.
After a head-on crash, investigators typically review vehicle positions, roadway conditions, witness statements, and any available electronic data to better understand what happened. Medical evaluations are also common because some injuries, including internal trauma or concussions, may not become immediately apparent following the collision.
