What Should You Do After a Hit-and-Run?
A hit-and-run can leave people with limited information about what happened. If you witness a similar accident, try to remember the vehicle’s make, model, color, license plate, and direction of travel. Avoid following the fleeing driver, as doing so can create additional risks.
If you are involved in a hit-and-run, move to a safe place when possible and seek medical attention for any injuries. Photographs of vehicle damage, nearby traffic signs, and road conditions may help document what occurred. Contact information from witnesses can also be useful. Even when injuries appear minor, symptoms may become more noticeable later, so keeping records of medical visits and related expenses can help document the effects of the collision.
