Why Vehicle Rollovers Result in Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes are among the most severe types of traffic collisions because occupants may experience multiple impacts as a vehicle overturns. The risk of serious harm can increase if a vehicle leaves the roadway, strikes an object, or if occupants are not properly restrained.
Entrapment is also more common in rollover crashes because damage to the vehicle can make it difficult for occupants to exit on their own. In these situations, specialized equipment may be needed to safely remove those inside before they can receive medical treatment.
Investigators typically review roadway conditions, vehicle damage, tire marks, and witness statements to determine what factors contributed to a rollover. Additional findings may become available as the investigation progresses.
