Palmer, MA (September 2, 2026) – One person was injured after a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday, September 1, on westbound Interstate 90 near mile marker 63 in Palmer.

Massachusetts State Police said troopers responded around 9:30 a.m. to a crash involving a box truck and a tractor-trailer. One occupant was found trapped inside a vehicle with injuries.

The crash temporarily closed the left lane of I-90 westbound. Traffic was diverted through Route 84 and Route 20 while the closure remained in place, and the highway had reopened by about 10 a.m.

Our thoughts are with the injured person and everyone affected by this crash. We wish the injured individual a full and speedy recovery.

What Should Truck Drivers Know About Large-Vehicle Blind Spots?

Large commercial vehicles have several areas around them where nearby cars may be difficult for the driver to see. These blind spots can extend along the sides, directly behind, and in front of a truck or trailer. Passenger vehicle drivers who understand these areas can make better decisions when traveling alongside larger vehicles.

Following too closely can be particularly risky because a truck driver may not be able to see a vehicle positioned directly behind the trailer. Staying far enough back to see the truck’s mirrors can provide a better indication of whether the truck driver can see the approaching vehicle. Drivers should also avoid remaining alongside a large vehicle for longer than necessary.

Merging around trucks requires patience because large vehicles need more space to change lanes and stop. A truck’s size and weight can also affect how quickly it responds to sudden traffic changes. Giving commercial vehicles additional room can help reduce conflicts when traffic becomes congested or when road conditions change.
