Houston, TX (September 10, 2026) – An 18-wheeler, a METRO bus, and two other vehicles were involved in a collision on westbound Interstate 10 East at the Mercury Drive entrance ramp on Wednesday, September 9.
A traffic alert posted at 11:55 a.m. described the accident as major. Emergency units were at the entrance ramp, and motorists were advised to expect delays. The cause of the collision remains under review.

Large Vehicles Can Complicate Multi-Vehicle Ramp Collisions
Entrance ramps combine merging traffic with vehicles already traveling at highway speeds. When an 18-wheeler, bus, and smaller vehicles become involved, their different sizes and turning paths can leave a broad section of roadway obstructed.
Large commercial vehicles also require more room to maneuver and generally need greater stopping distance than passenger cars. Their length can block multiple travel paths when they stop at an angle near a ramp or merge point.
Clearing several large and small vehicles may require additional roadway space for towing and emergency activity. Traffic can remain slow even after lanes begin reopening because vehicles approaching the interchange must merge through the reduced space. Heavy traffic volume can extend those delays beyond the immediate roadway blockage.
